Video Transcript: Hi pipers, Jori Chisholm here from BagpipeLessons.com. Today I want to give you some updates about the InTune Mic, tell you about some new options we have available, and some news about the newest iPhone models. So what is the InTune Mic? It’s the world’s first wireless instrument microphone designed for smartphones. Since its launch over a year ago, it has rapidly become one of my most popular and best selling, and it’s being used by pipers and pipe bands of all levels, around the world, from beginners helping them get their pipes in tune for the first time on their own to world champions using it to refine and perfect their sound.
But why has it gained such popularity? Historically, pipers have relied on tuning by ear, a skill that, while essential, is challenging and can take years to master. In noisy environments, like at the Highland Games or at band practice, it can be difficult or impossible to hear your instrument well enough to achieve perfect tuning. The invention of electronic bagpipe tuners and now smartphone tuning apps has revolutionized tuning for pipers and pipe bands, but they all have the same limitation: they need to be able to isolate each sound whether it’s the drone or chanter sound.
Yet, bagpipes produce four sounds simultaneously – three drones and the chanter. This means the tuner only works when it can isolate one sound. Traditionally, the workaround has been to position the tuner’s microphone—whether on a phone or a device—close to the drone’s top. You’ll see this at the Games or anywhere a pipe band is tuning up: someone walks around and places the phone right next to the top of the drone to tune to the drone. The problem is that the microphone is built into the phone so to isolate the sound of a single drone the phone has to be held right next to the top of that drone. This makes it impossible for a piper to tune their pipes with a smartphone one their own, unless you have the InTune Mic.
The InTune Mic resolves this by being a clip-on microphone, enabling attachment directly to the drone or chanter. It’s ultra-light, compact, wire-free, and fully adjustable. Designed for plug-and-play ease, it’s compatible with all devices—iOS, Android, iPads, and computers. With virtually no latency, its wireless range lets you fully harness the power of your smartphone and tuner apps, allowing for quick, precise tuning independently. The reason for its success isn’t just its innovative design; it’s how it transforms tuning into a solo, hassle-free task, especially with top apps like the Braw Tuner. My YouTube tutorial on using the InTune Mic with the Braw Tuner is becoming one of the most viewed on my channel, showcasing its effectiveness.
Today, I’m thrilled to introduce additional options for the InTune Mic, including updates for the newest iPhone models. The InTune Mic now comes in three versions: a receiver with a Lightning plug for most iPhones and some older iPads, a USB-C model for Android devices, newer iPhones, iPads, and other modern devices, and a dual model featuring both receivers for versatile use across different gadgets. Initially offered with just Lightning and USB-C options, the dual model responds to customer demand for a more flexible solution suitable for multiple devices. For those with older Android phones featuring a micro USB port, the USB-C receiver model can be adapted using a small, inexpensive adapter that supports data transfer, available from various retailers. To maximize mobility and convenience, consider bundling the InTune Mic with the Piper’s Advantage Bagpipe Phone Mount, a lightweight yet sturdy mount that allows you to attach your smartphone to your pipes and keep your favorite apps right at your fingertips.
Whether you are at the games, at band practice, or playing at home the Piper’s AdvantageTM Bagpipe Phone Mount and InTune Mic work together you can be totally mobile and get your pipes in tune quickly and independently. Bundling any InTune Mic model with the phone mount offers significant savings, making it a highly popular choice among pipers.
