New in 2022 is a multi-competition title, the BagpipeLessons.com 2022 WOPDC Grand Champion, which will be awarded to a performer in each category with most points overall. As the last in the series of three seasonal competitions in 2022, the Grand Champion will be announced at the live awards ceremony on December 14, 2022.
This fall competition will also include two scholarship opportunities for outstanding pipers: the Colin MacKenzie Memorial Piobaireachd Challenge for pipers 18 and under and the Alasdair Gilles Memorial Challenge 2/4 March for pipers in all age groups.
Introduced in 2011, the WOPDC cultivates a growing global piping and drumming community and provides the valuable experience of competition for everyone from accomplished competitive professionals to beginners and those not yet involved in a piping association or pipe band. This style of competition promotes better musicianship and offers the chance to measure one’s skills against others in a broader setting. The WOPDC is the only online competition to offer total public access to the complete results, including every competitor’s video, placement and judge’s comments. This distinctive transparency, personalized judge commentary, and wide offering of event choices (80+), has been key to the continued success of the WOPDC.
